03) The Great Gatsby: The novel and the modern film adaptations

講義内容

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s famous novel is a classic of American literature and perhaps the most studied novel in American educational institutions. The novel is rather short, so during the eight sessions we will cover the entire novel and discuss the two major film adaptations of it, one directed by Jack Clayton (1974), and the other by Baz Luhrmann (2013). We will also discuss the author’s biography, and the novel’s historical context and influence on literature and culture since it was published in 1925.
